We engaged Allan Nicholls of Residential Design Services to design and manage the renovation of a heritage-listed Federation house in Coogee in 2022/23. We wanted to rearrange the kitchen, dining and family room.

Allan came up with a practical and innovative design that transformed these three rooms into a spacious and light filled open area, while keeping with the character of the period. The design also included a new ensuite upstairs built into the roof space.

The design process allowed us plenty of time to provide feedback. Allan handled the DA approval process, including consultation with the heritage officers. During the construction phase Allan provided advice to the builder and assisted in monitoring the variations and additions to the contract. Allan has an eye for details and was able to quickly identify building defects.

Allan is an easy going person with a strong commitment and close interest in the project. He often made himself available at short notice to inspect the work of the builder or to discuss issues. We are very happy with the end result and would highly recommend Allan for any residential projects.
