This project provides a response to the usual problems associated with traditional interwar housing. Incremental alterations and additions were previously made to the rear resulted in dysfunctional spatial areas. The new residential design needed to amend these issues associated with past alterations.

This residential designs principal design features incorporated principals of passive and solar design by controlling direct sun entering the home interior with provision for effective cross flow ventilation. As the residential designer, I wanted to make sure that the entire house worked with these principals effectively. For this reason, I had to ensure the residential design allowed for correct ventilation.
The rear of the dwelling was reconfigured to suite demands of contemporary lifestyle by creating an open plan and improved functional connection between interior with the rear yard. Existing building fabric was retained and adapted where compatible with design brief. A use of complimentary materials balances & softens the building fabric.
